Trespass Vineyard - News & Events
March 2012
Dear Trespass Friends,
The 2009 vintage is finally ready!!! We have been anxiously waiting for these wines from the first day of harvest. With uncommonly low yields that year it gave us some wonderful depth, complexity and concentration from all our varietals. From some of our first barrel tastings we knew it was special. This was our 10th harvest for Trespass and what a way to commemorate that milestone.
Our winemaking continues to be overseen by Kirk Venge. He has once again put together his thoughts on the wines which we want to share with you...
2009 Trespass Cabernet Franc
The aromatic start to the 2009 Trespass Cabernet Franc is explosive! Warm black fruits, oak vanillin and an exotic raciness to a red I haven't seen in a long time, especially not from a Cab Franc. A few minutes after opening this opulent red tapers down to softer aromas of maraschino cherry and fruitcake. The mouth is full and voluptuous. That is a word I haven't used in years. It is very silky and round. The tannins are beautiful where this wine begins to meet the back palate. Further flavors of briar and hints of soil spring to the middle as well. The finish is fabulous and drawn out.
Harvested October 19, 2009
Aged 21 months - 60% new French oak
Bottled unfiltered and unfined
135 cases produced
2009 Trespass Rendezvous
The nose of the 2009 Trespass Rendezvous is a complex blend of higher barrel tones with cherry candle, black pepper, earth, pie dough and vanillin. At first, the nose is wound tight, but unravels very nicely in only a few moments' time. The palate follows suit with an abundance of fresh, bright flavors exaggerated by a chorus of youthful tannins. Racy black cherry is the forefront to a large middle mouth feel. Bringing up the rear of this wine and through on into the finish is a mélange of incredibly deep, black fruit flavors. The wine has great cellar potential to go beyond what it is today.
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Cabernet Franc

Now skipping forward for a little treat. The 2010 vintage was long and adventurous. We found a great 106 year old Zinfandel vineyard for a second Zin source. When the grapes arrived at the winery Donny couldn't help but notice that half the grapes were coming in as raisins! While he was discouraged, Kirk, our "glass half full" guy said; "Let's make a Late Harvest too!" We did... and it is wonderful. We only have 25 cases of splits of the 2010 Late Harvest Zinfandel. Be ready to enjoy this special wine after a wonderful dinner.
We continue to be so grateful to be following our dream and love all the fabulous friends we have made. Your visits are always a favorite way to spend an afternoon. We feel like we have extended family all over the country now... so thank you!
With warm wishes always,
Donny & Dana Gallagher
